Gregory Wathelet Claims Equine America CSI2* Grand Prix
Release date: 22/08/2021
The 2* Grand Prix sponsored by Equine America was a great finale to the last event at Tops International Arena. Of the 58 participants, 15 came back in the jump-off. France’s Pénélope Leprevost was as fourth starter the first to go clear with the SF stallion GFE Candy de Nantuel (Luidam x Diamant de Semilly). They realised a time of 39.93 seconds. Britain's James Billington soon improved the time and stopped the clock at 38.96 with Harwich VDL (KWPN, Arezzo VDL x Darco), thereby taking the lead for a very short time. Marlon Modolo Zanotelli rode a perfect round with the grey Cartaro (OS, Carinue x Chacco-Blue) and tightened the time a little more: 36.16. After a few combinations with four faults, top Belgian rider Olivier Philippaerts entered the ring with Miro (BWP, Diamant de Semilly x Kannan). This duo also went quickly through the course and crossed the finish line in 36.98. This was eventually enough for third place. Olympic bronze team medallist of Tokyo Gregory Wathelet was the fastest of all and went under 36 seconds: 35.39. This earned him victory with Berline du Maillet Z (Zang, Berlin x Action-Breaker).
