Great performances and numerous clear rounds in first part championship

About 500 horses travelled to the ‘state-of-the-art’ facilities at Tops International Arena for their battle in the KWPN Championships for Young Horses, the Blom Cup. Today it were the talented five, six and seven-year-olds to excel in the impressive arenas in Valkenswaard.

Six-year-olds
126 six-year-olds competed in the main arena. The best 70%, 86 combinations, qualified for the second part which is staged tomorrow and 52 have started the championship with a clear round.
Among them were the KWPN approved stallions Jubel ES (Harley VDL out of Maxime O keur prest by Lauriston, breeder Egbert Schep) with Kim Hoogenraat, Je Suis Equus Tame (Qlassic Bois Margot out of Tame Tame by Quaprice Z, breeder S.N.C. Brohier from St. Come du Mont) with Steven Veldhuis, and Justice HL (Harley VDL out of Noblesse Oblige elite pref prest PROK by Epilot) with Caroline Müller.

Five-year-olds
The five-year-olds competed in their first round of the Blom Cup in the second arena. Out of the 164 combinations 68 jumped a convincingly clear round.
As in the six-year-old category, 70% is allowed to start in the second part tomorrow, which means 114 combinations. All combinations with eight faults or more is not selected for the second part of the semi-final.
The following KWPN approved stallion will start tomorrow: Kardinaal HX (Don Diablo HX out of Wimette ster sport-spr by Karandasj, breeder Stal Hendrix from Kessel) under the saddle of Pieter Keunen, Kallmar VDL (Carrera VDL out of Geluk-Olaris elite IBOP-spr sport-spr PROK by Indorado, breeders Henk Dirksen and Martine Hijlkema from Tirns) with Jur Vrieling, Kuala Lumpur (Arezzo VDL out of Filandra JR elite IBOP-spr PROK by Indoctro, breeder J. Reitsma from Driezum) with Marco Sas and Kordon VDL (Glenfiddich VDL out of Anoulavsca Fortuna ster prest PROK by Kreator xx, breeders Peter and Anne Mieke Rinkes-Tjeenk Willink from Zwolle) also under the saddle of Jur Vrieling.

Seven-year-olds
There was a challenging course in the main arena for the seven-year-olds and 19 finished with a clear round. In total 54 horses qualified for the second part tomorrow. It was a exciting class and the time set was a decisive factor. All combinations will start with a clean sheet in the Final on Wednesday.
Two approved KWPN stallions were clear. Patrick van der Schans had a smooth round with the powerful Kannan son Investment I.B. (out of Reggae elite sport-spr pref prest PROK by Emilion, breeder G.J.H. Markvorst-van de Velde from Brucht) and James Billington had a great round with another Kannan son: Incanto VDL.
