Young Horses: Scott Brash wins seven-year-olds

Release date: 22/05/2018

The numbers one and two of yesterday’s class swopped placings today. Today the current leader of the Longines Global Champions Tour ranking, Scott Brash, won the seven-year-olds’s class with the talented AES gelding Hello Franklin (Billy Mexico x Goodtimes). Scott started riding Hello Franklin (ex Jalisco) in October 2017. Lady Harris and Lady Kirkham bought the horse from Emma McGlynn, who bred the gelding together with her mother Amanda. Yesterday’s winner, Bertram Allen, finished runner-up with Go To Fortuna KWPN, Eldorado Van De Zeshoek x Vancouver). Third place was for Belgium’s Karel Cox and the stallion Don Corleone 111 Z (Der Senaat 111 x Ideal de la Loge).

Britain’s Jemma Kirk won the class for five-year-olds with Diamonds are Unique (SF, Diamant de Semilly x Apache d’Adries). “I have bred him myself, so I am twice as proud,” smiled Jemma. “This is only his second competition, we were also in Oliva (Spain) where he won four classes. After Valkenswaard he will have a holiday until next year. We take things slowly.” Runners-uup were France’s Benoit Petitjean and D’Rihanna (Sir Otto S x Prix d’Exellence). The pair finished runner-up in the final last week. German rider Markus Renzel finished in third place with the Holsteiner gelding Niko (Numero Uno x Carpaccio).

The class for six-year-olds was won by Ireland’s Tom Slattery and Haufom (KWPN, Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Hamlet). “Last week we also won Tuesday’s class and yesterday we finished runners-up. Haufom is very consistent and is easy to ride. The stable I work for, Manton Grange Stalbes, bought him as a four-year-old at the Dutch Sport Horse Sales,” says Slattery.  Holland’s Megan Laseur finished runner-up with the KWPN mare Hipica (v. Plot-Blue). British rider Carmen Edwards took third place with Happy Valerie (KWPN, Verdi x Dutchboy).
