The public enjoyed three days of great sport and many young riders and young horses gained experience. The organisation is looking back on a very successful third edition of Event I.

The Grand Prix was decided in a super exciting jump-off which was won by British top rider Scott Brash, who set an incredible fast time as fourth starter. He had saddled his speedy Hello Mr. President for this class. “Yes, Hello Mr. President is a very fast horse and he loves it. For him it is never fast enough,” said Brash afterwards. “I thought it was a very good course. It is difficult to build a fair and selective course for a class with so many competitors.” Runners-up were Belgium’s Olivier Philippaerts and Extra, who really took all the risks to improve Brash’s time. Holland’s Gerco Schröder finished in third with Glock’s Zaranza.

The young Irish talent Harry Allen won the Small Tour with EH Quick Nina (Holst., Quidam’s Rubin x Camiros). The younger brother of Bertram finished his round in 55.75 seconds. In 2016 this horse was ridden in Valkenswaard by the world’s number one, Harrie Smolders. Britain’s Jemma Kirk finished runner-up with Quelisto followed by Patrick McEntee with April Mury Marais Z in third place.

The Medium Tour was won by Germany’s Max Nieberg and his BWP gelding Nabab de Revel (Nabab de Reve x Heartbreaker). The 23-year-old son of German jumping legend Lars Nieberg took all risks to win this class. Ireland’s Trevor Breen finished runner-up with Billy Drizzle and Belgium’s top rider Olivier Philippaerts cam third with Cigaret JVH Z.

Young Brit Will Edwards had the fastest round in the jump-off of the 1* Grand Prix which counted 14 competitors. The 18-year-old, who competed for Great Britain at the European Championships for Children, rode SHW Candies B, an eight-year-old AES mare by Chacco-Blue x Heartbreaker. “We bred her ourselves,” says Will about his mare, “she has a lot of scope and we think she has the potential for the real big fences. The future will tell. We might also keep her for our breeding at a later stage.” Ireland’s Harry Allen and Cheese W Z were runners-up and third place went to Jessica Mendoza and NP Zelah for Great Britain.

The Small Tour class was won by Denmark’s Christina Henriksen with Chilano (Holst., Chicago Z x Landlord). She had the fastest round in the 12-horse jump-off: 34.77. Runners-up were Australia’s Georgina Harvey with Angel Fire KJH, they were clear in 35.37. Frederick Goltz finished in third place with Doe Maar II for Ireland.

In the last class, the Medium Tour, it was again Harry Allen who took first prize. “Yes, it is going very well and I will be back again next week!” he smiled. Allen was the fastest with Fairytale in the 9-horse  jump-off: 35.05 seconds. Second and third place went to Britain’s Stuart Neads with Freya and Henry Truelove with Golly Girl respectively.
