Release date: 15/05/2018

The Young Horses classes showed again lots of potential with three victories for Ireland.
The first class of the second day at Tops International Arena was the competition for five-year-olds, Table A against the clock. The winner was Ireland’s Conor McMahon and Iris (KWPN, Starpower x Larino). The 18-year-old from Cratloe finished his clear round in 69.17 seconds. Britain’s Jemma Kirk finished second with Diamonds Are Unique followed by Canada's Braden James with I Am Special CB.

Victory in the class for six-year-olds went to Irish veteran Tom Slattery and the KWPN gelding Haufom (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Hamlet). The pair was over 4 seconds faster than runner-up Christian Rhomberg (AUT) with Come On. The 57-jarige Slattery works as a coach and stable rider at Manton Grange Stables in Great Britain and has a long list of victories. He won the national title five times. Third place went to Germany’s Kendra Claricia Brinkop with Dialan B.

Bertram Allen provided Ireland with the second Irish victory of the day. The 22-year-old won the class for seven-year-olds with the KWPN gelding Go To Fortuna (Eldorado van de Zeshoek x Vancouver) with a controlled fast round. “He has a lot of power, he really fights for you and he has a super character. He is a promise for the future,” said Allen. Go To Fortuna is stabled at Bertram’s facility in Hünxe, Germany, since the summer of 2017. Germany’s Markus Renzel finished in second place with Catenda. Third place went to Jessica Dimmock and Billy Fleance for Great Britain.
