Clare Balding
Clare Balding could ride before she could walk and, growing up surrounded by racehorses trained by her father, she dreamt of winning the Grand National or riding for Great Britain at the Olympics. Those dreams never came true but the consolation prize hasn’t been bad. As a television and radio presenter Clare has worked at six Olympic Games, as well as the Winter Olympics, Paralympics and twenty-one Grand Nationals. Clare lives in London with her wife Alice, and their very naughty dog, Archie. Meanwhile Clare has also written several books. In her first book for children The racehorse who wouldn’t gallop, which was recently published by Kluitman Publishers in the Netherlands, she combines her passion for horses with her passion for writing. Clare is currently working on the sequel The racehorse who disappeared.

The racehorse who wouldn’t gallop
The racehorse who wouldn’t gallop is a great humoristic adventure for readers of nine-years-old and older. Charlie and her family live on a dairy farm, but they risk to lose the farm. Charlie has the solution for the financial problems: buying a racehose and win the Derby! Noble Warrior is super strong, fit and healthy. He has only one little problem….. he won’t gallop. In fact, he won't even leave his stable without his best friend, a naughty palomino pony called Percy (a small pony who especially likes to fart). Charlie is convinced that Noble Warrior has what it takes to be a champion. But can she prove it? Derby Day is fast approaching and only a win can save the family farm from being repossessed. Can Charlie turn her chaotic family into a top training team? Can Noble Warrior overcome his nerves?

The racehorse who wouldn’t gallop (€ 13,99) with illustration by Tony Ross is published by Kluitman Publisher in the Netherlands. The Global Future Champions is staged at Tops International Arena (Maastrichterweg 249) in Valkenswaard. The interview with Clare Balding will start at 10 am.
