Wout-Jan began horseriding when he was just 4 years old, under the tutelage of his father Piet van der Schans, Wout-Jan’s biggest influence and a 1972 Olympic Games competitor. In a long and distinguished career, Wout-Jan cites Olympic Treffer, Leroy Brown, Goldenbridge, Corland and Eurocommerce Seoul as the best horses he has ever worked with. Some of his competitive highlights include winning the World Cup 3 times in Helsinki, winning the Grand Prix in Hardelot and London Olympia, and coming 6th at the European Championships in 1987 and 2001.
A firm believer in forever watching and learning from other riders, Wout-Jan is very much looking forward to Global Champions Tour this year, expressing pride in his ex-colleague Jan Tops, who he credits with putting together shows that give the sport “a whole new meaning.”
