Steve's father is a show jumper and chef d'equipe of the French show jumping team so Steve has been fascinated by horses since he started riding as a child, aged three. Steve began riding every day at seven and had his first trainer at nine years old. He quickly achieved competition success and made the Swiss Junior team. Steve later won a Junior European Team Bronze (1997) and Young Rider European Team Bronze medal (2002) before claiming a European Team Bronze in his first year as a senior competitor in 2003.
Steve has since had three top three FEI World Cup Final placings, won European Team Gold, and claimed Olympic Gold in 2012 (London) and a Olympic Bronze medal (2008). His heroes are fellow countryman Roger Federer, British rider John Whitaker and his trainer Thomas Fuchs. Steve believes that 'talent alone is not enough. Riding is all about patience and hard work'. He runs his own stables in Elgg near Zurich.
