Enrique Gonzalez is an accomplished, competitive show jumping rider, trainer and agent with over 30 years of experience in the horse industry.
Dedicated to horses from a young age, Enrique’s professional career took flight in 1987 when he co-founded Mexico’s first high performance riding club, the successful Club Hípico La Puerta in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, with fellow Mexican riders Carlos Alvarez del Castillo and Carlos Valdez Lacarra. In 1995, Enrique left Guadalajara for Mexico City to focus on the import and export of top show jumpers eventually forming Santa Clara Show Jumpers. Over the next twenty years, Enrique established close working relationships with several riders and dealers in Holland, France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Germany – most notably with German sport horse breeder Paul Schockemolle. With a particular focus on Holsteiner, Oldenburg and Hanoverian breeds, Enrique is directly responsible for the sale of numerous top horses abroad and in Mexico, many of which have gone on to successfully compete at international level show jumping competitions.
Enrique has also made a name for himself as one of Mexico’s leading riders with numerous grand prix wins to his credit. Widely known in the equestrian world as “La Pajara”, translated as “the Bird” in English, Enrique became the first Mexican rider to garner a sponsorship from a commercial brand (Comcel) in 1992. In 2008, Enrique represented Mexico at the Olympic Games in Beijing and was a member of the bronze medal winning team at the 2011 Pan American Games in his home country. In 2014, Enrique qualified and competed in the Zoetis $1 Million Grand Prix in Thermal, California, with the talented French gelding Quilebo du Tillard. He also represented Mexico at the 2014 Alltech World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France.
Enrique’s riding and teaching style has been influenced by many great coaches; Joseph Maurer, Nelson Pessoa, Antonio Maurer, Hap Hansen, and Gerry Mullins to name a few. He continues to train with Norbert Nuxoll in Germany. Since 2013, he has run the E2 Stables, together with Eduardo Menezes in California.
