He took up riding at age six in Genk, Belgium. His father let him ride with his brother Johan and his sisters Greet and Rita at a rural L.R.V. club. At age 12, Ludo was County Champion and one year later, in the same class, National Champion.
Since then, Ludo has competed in 10 European Championships since 1983, winning Team Gold in 1991 with his famous stallion Darco and Individual Silver in 2001 with Verelst Otterongo, and 13 FEI World Cup Finals since 1989. Ludo has also represented his country in three World Championships and four Olympic Games. His brother Johan and his twin sons, Olivier and Nicola, are all jumpers.
