  • Jur Vrieling
  • Competing for: Netherlands
  • From: Slochteren
  • Age: 55

Jur grew up around horses, but was more interested in football as a child. However, he did not like school so chose to focus on riding. "Once I realised that I was really good, I wanted more and more. I wanted to be better. In football, you could only get points and my sister came home from riding with cups and trophies."

His father Jan Vrieling is a former Dutch equestrian champion, and his sister Jannemiek is a dressage and jumping rider.

Jur's most memorable moments so far are winning a Team Silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and winning two Dutch championships in 2008 and 2012, and a World Gold medal in 2014.

His philosophy is, "Only if the horse has pleasure in what it does, can I be happy too." His ambition is to win an individual medal at a World Championships or Olympic Games.
