  • Gregory Wathelet
  • Competing for: Belgium
  • From: Huy
  • Age: 44

Gregory Wathelet began riding at his father's farm aged eight. At 10, his parents bought him a horse and he competed in his first regional show at 16. Though Gregory liked his first experience of riding, he originally did not want to be a professional rider because it was too expensive. He tried to combine school and riding but found it too difficult, so at age 19 he decided to have one year just riding, and ended up continuing.
From 2005 to 2007, Gregory represented Ukraine under the patronage of Unkrainian showjumping enthusiast Oleksandr Onyschchenko.
Overall, Gregory considers his most memorable show jumping moments were coming 4th with his team at the World Championships in Aachen in 2006 and winning the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Cannes in 2007. In a career full of fantastic horses, he rates Lantinus and Cortes as the finest.
If he had to describe Global Champions Tour in a few words he'd say 'best riders and top sport'.
