Profiles

  • Thomas Velin
  • Competing for: Denmark
  • From: Hørsholm
  • Age: 49

Thomas began riding at age five and got his first pony at age eight. "In the beginning, it was the relationship and interaction between horse and rider that attracted me. Later, the thrill of competition also excited me." His father Flemming Velin is a renowned horse breeder in Denmark and his sister Charlotte has also competed at elite jumping events. Thomas partnered the famous jumping stallion Quidam de Revel.

His motto is: "A horse is not just a horse, it is an individual like you and I, and should be treated accordingly. Therefore it is important that I invest time training my horses before I start making demands on them. I must adapt training to the individual horse. Otherwise I would never get them to give what they do." Thomas has represented Demark in two Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004, finishing 10th individually in both.
